The State University of New York at New Paltz hosted its 6th annual Alternative Spring Break (ASB) Program from March 18 through 24, 2016.  Ten students, including three students from ASB 2015 returning as Peer Mentors, were chosen from a pool of applicants to participate in leadership activities and to serve on 9 different projects during their break.  In total, the group completed 500 hours of leadership and volunteer activities in the Mid-Hudson Valley community.

The students held a donation drive at Stop & Shop in New Paltz  to collect donations for Chiz’s Heart Street  in Kingston, NY. In three hours, the students collected 153 items and $385.86.  In addition to these collections, the group also volunteered with Woodstock Farm Sanctuary, Chiz’s Heart Street, Lisa Libraries, Habitat for Humanity of Greater Newburgh, Scenic Hudson, The Food Bank of the Hudson Valley, Phillies Bridge Farm Project, and made blankets for Chiz’s Heart Street.
