Sarah, ASB 2015 Mentor

Communication Disorders
“The most important thing I’ll take from this experience is the new group of wonderful friends I made. However, that is closely followed by the realization that simple actions really can make a difference in other peoples’ lives. I’m going to make more of a conscious effort from now on, to pay it forward whenever I can.”

Nicole, ASB 2015 Mentor

English/Creative Writing

“I would have to say that the most important thing that I have learned from this experience is that leaders do not have to fit one kind of mold, just like how there is not one “cookie cutter” New Paltz student. There were a variety of personalities in this group, and it was incredible to see how easily we were able to mesh together and create a really strong bond with one another in a few days. Though we all had our respective leadership styles, we were able to work together and accomplish a lot of volunteer work at the sites we visited, and that was incredible to me.”

Mike, ASB 2015 Mentor

Adolescence Education, Social Studies

“Alternative Spring Break was the precursor to every leadership achievement I have had since then. It was my first instance of any sort of professional or volunteer experience and… it helped me realize my leadership potential and realize I can do something good and I can make a difference in the world.”
